For the fourth time in two years, toll charges for the 27.7 km Gurgaon expressway has been increased.

Commuters will have to pay Rs 20 to go to Delhi against the earlier rate of Rs 16. The rates will be effective from midnight on the intervening night of March 31 and April 1.

Officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) said the revision of the rates was an annual affair and a mandatory exercise as part of the concessionaire agreement with Jaypee-DSC that constructed the Gurgaon

expressway.

Officials said the rates were calculated on the basis of the whole sales price index prevailing in December each year.

Gurgaon Expressway was thrown open on January 23, 2008, and DSC started charging toll from the commuters on January 25. These rates were notified for the financial year 2007-08.

The NHAI had revised toll rates from April 1, 2008 for the year 2008-09. Likewise the toll rates revision was again notified for the year 2009-10 and effective from April 1, 2009. The latest notification came on March 31, 2010 for the year 2010-11. NHAI officials said about 2 lakh vehicles cross three toll plazas on the Gurgaon expressway daily.

The toll rate at Kherki Daula toll plaza near Haldiram food outlet in Gurgaon at 42nd milestone has also increased from Rs 21 to Rs 25. The rate for those crossing IGI toll plaza is Rs 13, up from Rs 11 per trip.
