It was a picture posted by their common friend on the social networking website — Facebook — that triggered the rage in which a class 10 student inflicted six deep cuts on his classmate's hand.

While the victim is undergoing treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, the attacker has been sent to Juvenile Justice Board by the police.

According to a police officer, there was cold war on between the two boys for some time. The bone of contention was a picture posted on Facebook by a common friend in which the victim had been shown sitting with a girl classmate with a child on her lap. The picture was from a group picture that was clicked during a house party a month ago.

"My nephew told me that someone had cropped the group picture and posted it on the social networking site. Since the cropped picture showed my nephew with his female classmate and the kid, his friends started making fun of him. Some funny comments were also posted on the picture. My nephew was annoyed with the constant bullying by his friends, including the one who attacked him.

Since the boy was from a different section and he used to tease him more than others, my nephew was angry with him," said the uncle of the victim.

Peeved at the jokes hurled at him, the victim picked up a fight with the accused on Wednesday.

According to victim's mother, the boy who attacked her son had sent him a text message on Sunday, saying he will attack him in the school on Wednesday. "That boy had told his friends about his plan who in turn informed my son about it. We have no idea about that message, as my son deleted it," she said.

The mother of the attacker, however, claimed that it was the victim who had been mocking her son by making objectionable remarks about his sister.

“When I reached school, I found my son was upset. Since he was not feeling well, I gave him medicines. He was feeling sorry for his mistake and even apologised for it,” she added.

The victim's father has a garment business in Lajpat Nagar and Karol Bagh while the other boy's father deals in footwear.
