Om Yadav, 28, lured 16-year-old Juhi Jha to his friend's rented apartment in Dwarka. He force-fed her four bottles of sedatives before having sexual intercourse with her, police officers investigating the incident said. “Certain items recovered from the crime scene suggest that the location had been used for similar activities earlier," said a senior Delhi Police officer on condition of anonymity.
“Yadav confessed to having used them to drug her before forcing her to have sex with him. When she refused to give in despite being drugged, Yadav used the dagger to slit her throat," the officer said. Meanwhile, the victim's family shunted around from one police station to the other to lodge a missing persons report. "We went to the Uttam Nagar Police Station but they told us to go to Naraina. From Naraina, they sent us to Vikaspuri, where our complaint was received only on Friday morning," said Jaya, Juhi’s elder sister.
The family claimed their daughter could have been saved had the police acted swiftly. But the police said that they were only following procedure. "We swung into action immediately. There is no negligence on our part," said V Renganathan, DCP (west). "The weapon used in the crime — a dagger — has been recovered.”
