Now as a central minister, Abdullah is again headed for the course. He has decided to contest elections to the prestigious Delhi Golf Club, spread over 220 acres in the heart of the Capital.

“Its absolutely certain. I am going to contest the elections for President’s post,” he told Hindustan Times.

The club, frequented by the who’s who of the Capital, will hold elections on September 24.

Asked whether his state, which is in turmoil, and his party, needed him more at present, Abdullah said, “I have enough stamina to run everywhere. Don’t worry…I am going to be present everywhere.”

Abdullah, who also heads the J&K Cricket Association, said he didn’t think that devoting time to the club would be a problem as he was “always present in Delhi” and that his being a Member of Parliament did not come in the way of his contesting elections.

The elections to the club, which have always been a high-profile affair, could see more top-notch candidates in the fray.

Former home secretary R.K. Bhargava has already throwing in his hat in the ring.

“I am glad to hear that Mr Abdullah would also be contesting,” said the 1958-batch IAS official, who also served as chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh.
