Coming out of the emergency ward of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, 50-year-old Basanti Devi tries hard to retain her composure. Her daughter Nisha (19) has been operated upon thrice in the last two days to remove pellets from her body.
“She is not well and the doctor said she would also require a blood transfusion as the pellets have led to a septic,” she said. Nisha, who works for a private bank in Connaught Place, is the sole breadwinner of the family.
The tragedy couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Rajpur Road-based family. Nisha’s father had suffered a heart attack just a week ago. “I didn’t know how to break the news to her father. I told him only after her first surgery was over,” said Basanti Devi, who herself suffers from high blood pressure.
Nisha’s elder sister Kalpana said she was discharged from the hospital on Saturday night with a few stitches. “We took her to a different doctor and came to know that there are pellets in her body. Even then the hospital authorities were reluctant to re-admit her,” Kalpana claimed.
Nisha went shopping with her friend Babita, who died in the blast, on Saturday evening.
