India’s victory in the cricket World Cup has won the team accolades from across the political spectrum.

President Pratibha Patil felicitated the team in Mumbai.

“Both the teams did exceedingly well. My congratulations to the Indian team,” said finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. While railway minister Mamata Bannerjee wrote to the team congratulating it for doing India proud, BJP president Nitin Gadkari also extended his greetings.

The Railways also announced the issuance of first AC complimentary lifetime passes to the members of the winning team, agencies reported.

Various state governments have also congratulated the team and even announced awards for members from their states. The Gujarat government on Sunday announced the state’s highest sports honour, the Ekalavya Award, to Munaf Patel and Yusuf Pathan, members of India’s World Cup winning squad. Uttar Pradesh CM announced the Kanshi Ram International Sports Award to Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla.
