Friday onwards, Delhi will get an additional 579 MW power from central power generating stations and through arrangements made with other states.

Power department officials said hourly rotational power cuts, which have become the norm across Delhi for the last two weeks, will end.

“The demand for power had exceeded expectation in April,” said a senior power department official.

The peak demand on Thursday was the highest this season at 3681 MW, as the maximum temperature touched 42.8 degree Celsius. Although the temperature was marginally less than Wednesday’s record 43.5 degrees, it was still four degrees above normal. “Till a few weeks ago, power cuts would happen once a day for an hour. We expect that much in summer. But, of late, power cuts started happening twice or thrice a day. We don’t know whether the situation will actually improve,” said V Krishnan, a resident of C-Block, Janakpuri.

On Thursday, there was load shedding of around 308 MW in the afternoon.
