A major fire that broke out at a five-star hotel in the Indian capital on Saturday was brought under control by the late afternoon with authorities saying all guests and employees were rescued safely.
The fire broke out at around 12.50 pm in the basement kitchen of Enoki, the Japanese restaurant of The Grand hotel at Vasant Kunj in south Delhi. The blaze quickly engulfed the entire restaurant, with thick smoke billowing out of the hotel building.
"The fire is under control. There was no casualty," said Ray Mcshane, general manager of the luxury hotel that has 390 rooms.
"All the guests and hotel employees have been rescued safely," the hotel official said.
"The guests will be relocated to Shangri-La and Hyatt Regency hotels in Delhi," Mcshane said.
Over 40 fire tenders were rushed in half-hour to douse the "serious" blaze, a fire brigade official told IANS.
It was not immediately known how many floors of the building caught fire, the cause of which is being investigated.
