The services of five Citibank officials, including main accused Shivraj Puri's wife, have been terminated for negligence, more than two months after the R400-crore customer fraud came to light.

With this, a total of eight employees of Citibank have lost their jobs till now, including Puri, who was a relationship manager and duped high networth clients on the pretext of a bogus investment scheme.

“Following disciplinary procedures, the services of a few employees of our Gurgaon branch have been terminated,” confirmed a Citi India spokesperson but declined to confirm all the names.

Bank officials, however, claimed that all were not actively involved with Puri in his plan.

Meanwhile, police sources said Puri's wife Nidhi Uppal, a commercial business counsellor at the bank, was also sacked.
They were reportedly living separately. Others in the line of fire are Amit Zalpuri, Pariskhit Adya, operation and service head; Nitin Chawla, branch investment counsellor; Kapil Chabra, assistant sales manager; Vikas Mishra, branch teller; and branch service manager Rama Narang.

According to sources, the Gurgaon police have been intimated about the termination of these employees.

The development assumes significance as ever since news of the fraud broke out, both the Gurgaon police and Citibank have maintained that it was no other bank official other than Puri was involved.

Accused of receiving kickbacks from Puri to the tune of Rs 31 lakh, the Gurgaon branch head Amit Zalpuri and Nitin Chawla were suspended in the first week of February. With more terminations now, the role of insiders has been confirmed.
