If you are flying on Wednesday, get ready to face flight delays. The Met Department has predicting dense fog in the city between 4 am and 9 am.
Fog returned on Tuesday morning after two clear days, reducing visibility on the roads. At places, visibility came down to as low as 150 meters.
On Tuesday evening, 120 trains were reported to be running behind schedule. The average delay was five hours. Around 60 trains were cancelled and 20 trains were rescheduled.
The fog, however, led to an increase in the minimum temperature. From Monday’s 3.4 degrees Celsius (5 degrees below normal), the minimum temperature rose to 4.1 on Tuesday. The maximum temperature was 22.3 degrees, (2 degrees above normal) up from Tuesday's 20.3 degrees.
"Dense fog will remain from 11 pm to 3.30 am," said an official.
Christmas day was officially the coldest day of the season so far with mercury dipping to 2.9 degrees Celsius.
Last year, the minimum had come down to 5.2 degrees on December 22. In the past decade, the lowest minimum for the month was recorded on December 12, 2005 when the mercury came down to 3.3 degrees.
