For a life in South Campus

Having secured a seat in colleges around South Campus may have been the first step of your journey to college, but getting an accommodation near that college will be as challenging.

Having secured a seat in colleges around South Campus may have been the first step of your journey to college, but getting an accommodation near that college will be as challenging.

The campus located in Dhaula Kuan has nine colleges but only one of these, Sri Venkateswara College, has a hostel.

“The hostel accommodates both boys and girls with 72 seats for each. We allow students to use coolers in summers and heaters in winters. Each room is comfortably furnished with beds, mattresses, pillows, reading tables and chairs,” said M.V.R Prasada Rao, warden, Sri Venkateswara College hostel.

But those who live in NCR are going to have a tough time. “Students from NCR are not eligible for hostel accommodation,” Rao added. While Ram Lal Anand College is planning to come up with a girls’ hostel in the coming years, this year, no such options exist.

For students who did not manage to get accommodated in the hostel, areas like South Extension, Satya Niketan and RK Puram are teeming with paying guest accommodations and private hostels.

“It is actually very easy to find an arrangement that suits you. Paying guest accommodations are reasonably priced. One can also rent an independent apartment with friends,” said Smriti Katiyal, who studies at Jesus and Mary College.

While most accommodations provide meals, there are a number of tiffin services in the area that cater especially to students.
