If you don’t ensure that the parking label on your vehicle is displayed prominently, while en route the IPL match on Tuesday, the Delhi Traffic Police will do it for you.
In a bid to keep congestion in check and prevent vehicles not bearing parking labels from getting parking spots during the clash between Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium, the Traffic Police have armed their men with glue sticks.
“The area is short on parking space; we will not tolerate vehicles ferrying spectators right to the gate from which they will enter the stadium, thus sending traffic behind them into a tizzy,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
Both designated parking areas — Mata Sundari and Shanti Van — can accommodate only 300-odd vehicles.
“So, only vehicles with a valid parking label prominently displayed will be allowed from Rajghat towards Delhi Gate and from Delhi Gate towards Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg from 3pm to 4.30pm. If they don’t have the means to display the stickers, we shall gladly provide help,” Garg said.
According to the plan, Traffic Police officers positioned at all entry points to parking lots P, P1, P2, P3, P4, will carry glue sticks to ensure that those seeking entry to the parking lots have parking labels stuck on their vehicles’ windshields.
“What happens usually is that even those vehicles that have valid parking labels do not ensure that they are displayed. It makes things difficult as officers first have to flag them down and then ask for their labels,” said Garg.
“This throws traffic out of gear and contributes to general chaos. If they can afford an expensive ticket but not a little glue, we will help them with it,” Garg added.
