Former Janata Dal (United) MP Ejaz Ali is set to form his own party in Bihar. The party — to be named Janata Dal (Mehnatkash) — will field candidates on more than 50 seats in the coming assembly elections in the state.
Ali, who is also the leader of All India United Muslim Morcha, a social group working for poor Muslims, said he got the inspiration for forming his own party from the Dalits.
“The minorities should focus on alliance politics as Dalits are doing rather than being subservient to political parties,” he said.
Ali has sought amendment in the Constitutional Order of 1950 so that restriction on inclusion of Dalit Muslims in SC category could be removed.
The order has been amended twice in the past to extend SC status to Sikh Dalits and Buddhist Dalits.
