Former Medical Council of India chief Ketan Desai, in judicial custody in connection with a graft case, has been admitted to AIIMS for treatment of a bacterial infection on his face.
Desai, who has been lodged in Tihar Jail, was admitted in the old private ward of the AIIMS surgery department on June 11.
Desai is undergoing treatment for a pus cavity or abscess caused by bacterial infection on his eye, doctors said.
"Ketan Desai was brought here with complaint of pain in the eye. The boil had grown on the eye swelling a portion of his face. He is undergoing treatment for it," one of the doctors at AIIMS said.
"His condition is not well as the abscess is giving a lot of pain. He is undergoing treatment for it and as soon as his condition improves we will discharge him," the doctor with the hospital said.
Desai is under the supervision of Dr Sandeep Guleria, additional professor, department of surgical disciplines.
"He has been admitted in a private ward which is completely airconditioned," a Tihar prison official said.
Desai and three others were arrested by the CBI on April 23 for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of 2 crore rupees from the owners of a medical college in Patiala for permitting them to admit students despite lack of infrastructure.
Later, searches at the premises owned by Desai led to recovery of huge amounts of cash, investment papers and gold worth several crores of rupees.
