A gang of burglars struck at four adjacent houses in an apartment complex in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka on Thursday before decamping with cash and valuables amounting to lakhs.

According to the police, the incident was reported from Gayathri Apartments in sector nine. The burglary seems to have occurred between 11am and 1pm, when the occupants of the four targetted flats were away at work.

“All the homes that were burgled are located in the C block of the apartment complex and were broken into by dismantling iron grills and breaking padlocks. Cash and valuables estimated to be more than Rs 20 lakh were stolen,” said a senior police officer investigating the incident.

The police said they are scanning the CCTV footages obtained from a network of cameras installed across the complex and are also questioning the complex staff and the domestic helps.

Sources claimed that they had received certain leads from the CCTV footages obtained from a particular block of the apartment complex and had stepped-up vigil in the area.

“It has to be an insider’s job since the perpetrators were not only able to gain access to the complex despite elaborate security arrangements, but they also knew the occupant of which house would be away at what time,” the officer said.

A case of burglary has been registered at the Dwarka South Police Station and investigations into the matter were underway.
