The son of an Uttar Pradesh politician is among four men the police have arrested for robbing a meat trader of Rs 20 lakh in East Delhi a week ago.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Safi (23), Shadab Kadir (22), Prashant Gupta (23) and Nadeem (27). All of them except Nadeem, who goes by only one name, have criminal records.
Police said on August 17 Mohammad Arif was coming out of Vijaya Bank with the money.
“Three men snatched the bag with money as soon as Arif stepped out of the bank. They pointed a gun at him to take the bag. When Arif raised an alarm, they snatched the motorcycle of a passer by and fled," said S.S. Yadav, DCP (northeast).
During investigations, the police found that Nadeem had passed on information about Arif's movement to the others.
"Nadeem is also in meat trade and knew Arif's family well. He knew about his movements and was aware that he goes to the bank to collect the weekly payment," said the officer.
The police said one of the accused, Shadab Kabir, is the son of Mohammad Kadir, a three-time councillor from Dasna in Uttar Pradesh.
"Kabir has earlier also been arrested in a murder case. We are also investigating his father's role in the crime," said the officer.
From the accused the police have recovered Rs 15.05 lakh of the robbed money, two pistols, eight cartridges and a motorcycle.
