Four persons were arrested in connection with the kidnap and murder of a teenaged student in the city for a ransom of Rs 60 lakh, a senior police official said on Thursday.
All the four accused were known to the victim Ribu Chawla (16), a Class XI student of KR Mangalam School in Vikaspuri, the official said. However, police did not provide the identity of the arrested persons or the motive behind the crime.
Police have recovered the mobile phone of the victim used by the kidnappers to make the ransom calls and the car used in the crime.
Investigators had yesterday said that they suspect that those involved in the kidnapping might be known to the family and they killed Ribu as they feared being identified and caught.
Ribu was found in a jungle area in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area yesterday morning with his throat slit, a day after he was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs 60 lakh.
The victim, son of businessman Sanjay Chawla, was kidnapped by four unidentified men in a car at around 3:15 pm on Tuesday after hitting his two-wheeler.
Ribu and his friend Shwetank were returning home in a two-wheeler when the men in the car hit their vehicle. There was a heated argument with Ribu and his kidnappers for a few minutes after which he was pulled into their car.
