One phone call was all it took to shatter the peace of the sleeping household of the Singh family. The phone call by their nephew, Pawan, at 4.10am on Saturday morning changed their lives forever.
A little while after Pawan called home, the family had lost two of its male members in the fatal Mayapuri road accident that took place early on Saturday morning.
"Pawan's WagonR collided with a mini-truck. It was a minor accident and when he called us, we rushed to the spot as the car was badly damaged and the owner wasn't ready to compensate for the damage. We called the police to settle the matter. They sorted out everything and only the paper work was left when a speeding tuck rammed the vehicles on the Mayapuri flyover, killing my brother, nephew and two others," said Vinod, who had rushed to the spot after receiving the phone call along with his brother Vijay Singh.
"Both my brother, Vijay, and nephew, Pawan, were killed in the accident," said Vinod, who suffered serious injuries in the accident.
The brothers and their nephew used to drive cabs to earn their living and were living together in Manglapuri, Palam. Pawan, who was working as a cab driver with a Gurgaon-based call centre, was on his daily shift.
"We never thought of it even in our wildest dreams. The incident has shattered our family," added an inconsolable Vinod, who was discharged from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya hospital after treatment.
