Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and Dehi urban development minister Satyendar Jain launched the initiative of providing three meals per day by serving food to the needy at the Dandi Park shelter in north Delhi.

The Delhi government on Monday started providing free food to the poor and homeless at 10 night shelters operated by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).

Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and Delhi urban development minister Satyendar Jain launched the initiative of providing three meals per day by serving food to the needy at the Dandi Park shelter in north Delhi.

Sisodia said the initiative has been launched in order to protect the poor from the impact of the ongoing demonetization exercise that has led to many people dying in bank queues.

The shelters near which these food centres will operate include one each at Geeta Ghat, Yamuna Pushta, Dandi Park, Jama Masjid, Sarai Kale Khan, Nizamuddin Nila Gumbad, Sarai Phoos, Jhandewalan shelter 1, Kotla Mubarakpur and Fatehpuri near Old Delhi railways station.
