In yet another shame to the city, a minor girl was allegedly raped by three youths in South Delhi, police said. The incident occurred on Wednesday, but the three youths were arrested on Sunday.
The police said the victim, a Class 11 student, knew one of the accused who allegedly took her to his house and then raped her. The 16-year-old girl has identified the accused as Mohit Pal, her friend and neighbour, and his two friends — Sharad Kumar and Amit Kumar. They all are in the age group of 20 to 25 and live in government quarters in Sector 6 in RK Puram, police said.
The other two accused used to do odd jobs at different restaurants to eke out a living, police said.
According to police, Mohit is the son of a government official.
"The girl was friends with him and used to meet him sometimes. On Wednesday, she met Mohit outside her school and he took her to a restaurant in RK Puram for lunch. After lunch, he took her to his friend Sharad's rented accommodation in Moham-madpur, saying he wanted to spend some time with her," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
Police said Mohit then asked Sharad and another friend Amit to come over.
"They took turns to rape the girl and kept her confined for a few hours. They also threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. She was so frightened that after returning home she did not even tell her parents about the incident.
The next day she broke down and told her mother about the matter. The family approached us and we sent the victim for medical examination that confirmed rape," added the officer.
Police have booked the three for rape and have arrested them and sent to custody.
