BJP president Nitin Gadkari is likely to induct Jaswant Singh back into the party very soon, nine months after the veteran leader was shown the door for his book praising Jinnah. HT had first reported about the BJP leadership mulling the issue of Singh’s return to the party.

Gadkari met Singh before the party’s national executive. When asked, BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar said: “At the appropriate time, party president Nitin Gadkari will inform the media about his final decision.”

Singh had accompanied L.K. Advani for Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s funeral, which sparked off speculations about his return. Sources say, Singh’s return can strengthen Advani’s position against the RSS, which is perceived as becoming more powerful ever since Gadkari took over as party chief.

But, this may make the Sangh push for Uma Bharti’s return, to even the score.

The party also announced the names of new functionaries to the six BJP morchas, the central election committee and the disciplinary committee.
