The police have arrested a gang of dacoits that had allegedly struck at two homes recently.
The northwest police arrested the gang's two alleged dacoits — Islam (30) and Rajender (29) — and also two of its middlemen — Praveen (38) and Raj Kumar (50). The middlemen used to take possession of the booty and sell it off in the grey market at lucrative rates, said a police source. "With these arrests, we have solved two dacoities that had occurred in Narela and Shahbad Dairy," said the source.
The police have also recovered around 6.5 tonne of copper wire, slabs, copper scraps, a canter truck and a tempo from the possession of the accused persons, the police said. The gang used to target potential targets across "industrial areas of outer district for committing dacoities," said the source.
Meenu Choudhary, DCP (northwest) said the arrest occurred following the investigation into a recent case of attempt to murder whose complaint was lodged with the Adarsh Nagar police station. "During investigation it was learnt that two persons, Satish and Sunil, were involved in the incident and that they are members of a notorious gang," said Choudhary.
"On Wednesday, information was received that members of the gang would assemble at a godown owned by Islam. Accordingly, a trap was laid and the four were apprehended," she added saying, "Efforts are on to nab the gang's other absconding members."
