Their age belies the fact that they have collectively killed 11 people and at the slightest provocation. Their ruthlessness can be gauged from the fact that one of the victims was the mother of an accused.
The Southwest Delhi police have arrested five members of an interstate gang of robbers, who were planning to commit dacoity at a petrol pump on Najafgarh Nangloi Road.
The police found out that one of the accused was currently pursuing a degree in hotel management (HM). Together, the gang was involved in 15 different cases of robberies and murders. Police said the five friends killed a man on January 3. The victim reportedly had a property dispute with one of the accused.
The police arrested Virender (20), the HM student, Manoj (19), Sandeep (21),
Sanjay (23) and Naveen (24) last evening when they had got together in a DDA park to plan a robbery at a petrol pump.
"They wanted to rob the petrol pump to get enough money for their expenses to sustain themselves while on the run from their native places, out of the reach of Haryana police," Sharad Aggarwal, deputy commissioner of police (West), said.
The police said Virender is pursuing a course in hotel management from Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Hotel Management in Ambala, while Naveen runs a pig farm. Sanjay is an ITI dropout and Manoj and Sandeep are unemployed.

The police said the five accused were ruthless in their approach.
"Naveen, a resident of Sonepat in Haryana, was involved in the murder his mother. She had intervened in a quarrel between Naveen and his uncle over some property matter. Recently on January 3, he along with his associates shot dead one Balraj Saini of Fazilpur Village in Haryana. They fired six rounds and the deceased sustained four gunshots injuries. There was some property dispute between the deceased and one of the accused persons," added Aggarwal.
Three arrested for looting cash, phone
New Delhi: Two youths and a minor boy were apprehended in outer Delhi soon after they allegedly robbed a bakery supplier of R8,000 and a mobile phone, police said on Sunday.
Mukesh (19) and Surender Singh (20) were nabbed from Sultanpuri by some people yesterday while the minor boy, who managed to escape, was apprehended later.
Ishtyaq, the victim, was on his bicycle and going towards Sagarpur to supply bakery items when he was waylaid by the three accused at 5:30am on Saturday.
They allegedly robbed him of cash and a mobile phone but Ishtyaq managed to catch hold of Surender while eyewitnesses apprehended Mukesh. Their interrogation led the police to the minor who had escaped.
"They told us that they had no source of income and so they started committing petty thefts and robberies," a senior police official said. PTI
