Germany has said some of its nationals underwent training at terrorist camps in the tribal areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan and have been identified.

And in what could be an indicator to the expanding network of the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba, Joerg Ziercke, president of Germany’s federal police office, said the outfit was also active in Germany, but didn’t pose any “operative risk”. “There are two-three people in Germany who have direct connection with the Lashkar.”

New Delhi has blamed the Lashkar for the November 26 Mumbai attacks.

These operatives, he said, had undergone training in the tribal areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

“Based on whatever investigations we have conducted, we feel Lashkar is responsible for these attacks,” said Ziercke, who is on a three-day visit here. He, however, added that German investigators did not know whether the Lashkar had direct connection to Mumbai attacks.
