If weather forecasters are to be believed, Delhi is all set to have a wet, wet weekend.

Which means, while Delhiites head off to hill stations to escape the rising heat during the long weekend, there will probably be no heat in Delhi at all.

And it also means, the parched city's quota of monsoon rains will be fulfilled to some extent at last. And forecasters agree on this.

While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) sees thundershowers, BBC Weather sees a full on "Heavy Rain" during the next two days. Weather Underground, on the other hand, sees a 60 per cent chance of “precipitation” over the next two days.

“The chances (of rain) are bright. Whatever the actual amount of rainfall, the general relief from the heat will stay,” said the duty officer at the Safdarjung Met office.

The process has already started. Friday saw dark clouds taking over the skies, promising to pour anytime.

The maximum temperature remained 34 degrees Celsius. According to some forecasters, it could plummet to 32 in the next two days.

After a good spell of rain on Tuesday — around 44 mm —the skies had dried up again, giving Delhiites yet another reason to head out to cooler places for the extended weekend (Janmashtami on Friday and I-Day on Saturday).

“What we need is a complete washout, to make up for the loss of rainy days in the past two months,” said Vidya Sharma, a call centre executive who lives in C R Park in South Delhi.

“People like us who stayed back in Delhi this weekend deserve to have some fun in the rain.”
