130 cops from Ghaziabad police station transferred for inaction in murder case of teen
Family of the victim alleged that the police officials at Modi Nagar let off the men named in the FIR. The same accused were arrested later who then revealed the location of the dead body
As many as 130 personnel from Modi Nagar police station were sent to police lines on Tuesday in a major crackdown by top police officials after the dismembered body of a 15-year-old schoolgirl was found on September 15 — a day after her severed head was found.
The girl was allegedly kidnapped by several men while she was on the way to her school on September 4. Her family alleged that the police officials let off the men named in the FIR and the same accused were arrested later and they revealed the location of the dead body.
The accused had reportedly told the police that they murdered the girl and threw the body in fields near Kalcheena in Modi Nagar.
“We have transferred nearly 130-132 personnel from Modi Nagar police station area. Staff from police lines and other police stations will replace them now. The decision has been taken to maintain order,” said HN Singh, senior superintendent of police, Ghaziabad.
Sources said those facing action include constables, women constables, senior sub inspector and head constables.
Local residents, associations and politicians have been staging routine protests in Modi Nagar against the ghastly crime.
“We demand a CBI probe into the incident. We had named the accused in the FIR but the police let them off earlier. Later, they threatened me that I have lodged an FIR and the girl would not be spared. The same men murdered the girl. They were finally picked up again and the dead body of my daughter was recovered,” said the girl’s father.
“Her head was found on the instance of the accused on September 4. A day later, the dismembered and decomposed body was found. There is a larger conspiracy involved into the incident. We also demand action against the policemen and an FIR be lodged against them,” he said.
The police have already arrested five persons in the case. On the day when the body was found, the SSP had also suspended the investigating officer and had transferred the Modi Nagar station house officer to police lines.
