An Uttar Pradesh (UP) police constable and his accomplice were arrested on Wednesday from Hapur town in Ghaziabad on charges of drug peddling.
The arrests followed a trap laid by the police.
Around 240 grams of heroin, worth R25 lakh in the international market, was recovered from the possession of the accused. Constable Mahendra Singh, posted at Lal-Kuan police post on NH-24, was arrested along with his accomplice Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Mayur Vihar phase-I in New Delhi, the police said.
"We had information of their involvement in drug dealing. Kumar has allegedly been peddling drugs for several years," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said.
Both the accused were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
"We have suspended the constable and departmental action will be initiated against him," the SSP added.
In another case, a sub-inspector posted at Loni was suspended on Wednesday for allegedly demanding R50,000 bribe from a complainant for filing a final report in the latter's case.
