In a late night raid on Wednesday at hotel Parth Inn in Ghaziabad, police arrested 66 businessmen from different areas of NCR region and booked them under sections of IPC, Gambling Act, Excise Act and Prevention of immoral trafficking act at Masuri police station.
Apart from men, six women in age group if 20 to 27 years were also arrested. Those arrested claimed that they were invited by their friends for a party where they also indulged in gambling activities.
A majority of arrested businessmen belong to Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rohtak and Delhi. Five of the women belong to Delhi while one of them hails from Ghaziabad.
Police also seized over 15 cars, around Rs 9.3 lakh in cash, liquor bottles and three licensed weapons during the raid.
Hotel owner Dharmendra Agarwal said that he was approached by two men for arranging the party for which he rented the basement and arranged for snacks for a sum of Rs 1 lakh.
"The group of women and liquor was arranged by them on their own," he told HT.
The arrested women said that they arrived only to perform dance at the party and not indulged in any sort of prostitution activities.
The entire group was placed at three different police stations in Ghaziabad due to the accused being more in numbers. They were later produced before a Ghaziabad court.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh said that the accused would further be booked under provisions of the Gangster Act.
