Delhi University’s second cut-off list pushed an 18-year-old girl over the edge.

On Monday, Prachi Singh Gaur returned home after submitting her admission form at Vivekanand College and hanged herself.

The incident happened in Pocket D2, Kondli, New Ashok Nagar area, police said.

Prachi hanged herself from a ceiling fan inside the house after she reportedly failed to secure a seat in the second cut-off list released by the Delhi University on Tuesday evening at around 8.30 pm, police said.

The police said when the incident occurred, Gopal Singh Gaur, Prachi’s father who runs a general store in the area, had gone to a nearby temple.

“On Saturday, I went with my daughter to DU. She was hoping to get through some college after the second cut-off lists came out. She was sad when she saw the second cut-off list but still went to college to submit the admission form,” Gaur said.

“She even said that she would pursue her studies through School of Open Learning. But in the evening when I came back she was no more.”
