A day after three municipal councillors beat up a senior executive engineer of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, the staff and officials of the civic agency boycotted work on Saturday protesting the incident. The striking officials threatened to make it indefinite and demanded immediate arrest of the accused persons.

It is said that corporation staffs about 4,500 people, including high-ranking officers.

“The councillors have often misbehaved with (our) staff and officials. Most of the councillors also work as contractors and when a work is not allotted to them, they indulge in disruptive activities,” said Nain Singh Chaudhary, president of GMC workers' association.

On Friday evening, AK Singh, an executive engineer was allegedly beaten up by three councillors and an ex-councillor in Brij Vihar area.
Singh later lodged an FIR against the four persons, but no arrests have been made so far.
