Delhi University teacher G N Saibaba, who was arrested in 2014 by Maharashtra Police over alleged links with Maoists, will remain suspended till the court case against him is settled, Ram Lal Anand College has decided.
Ram Lal Anand College had in April formed a one-member committee to look into the issue of reinstatement of Saibaba, an assistant professor of English, after he was granted bail by Supreme Court.
Saibaba was suspended by the college on May 15, 2014, five days after he was arrested by Maharasthra Police.
“The committee decided his suspension from services will continue till the criminal case against him in the court is settled. The decision has been approved by the University and has been communicated to Saibaba as well,” Ram Lal Anand College principal Vijay K Sharma said.
Saibaba — who is 90% disabled — reported to the college recently and sent a letter to the principal to initiate the process of his reinstatement.
In a letter to Saibaba, the college said it restrained his entry to the college, which will remain in force till further orders
Saibaba claimed he was being targeted. “If the SC has given me bail then why should my suspension be continued? Government officials out on bail are allowed to join college. They are targeting me,” he said.
