God could not be everywhere therefore he created Mother. They are God’s avatar in love. The spiritual charisma emanating from their lives sanctifies the world through love.
Mother Teresa is the best example of God’s love and selfless service for the
poorest of the poor. Today, the whole world celebrates the centenary birth anniversary of this saint of Kolkata.
Mother Teresa (Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu) was born on August 26, 1910, to Nikola and Drana Bojaxhiu at Skopje, in Macedonia. She was born into a family of deeply religious Catholics. Agnes felt she got the calling to work for God at the young age of 14. Answering the call of God as a religious nun, she listened to God’s words: “Whatsoever you do to the least of these people, that you do unto me. For when I was hungry you gave me to eat; when I was thirsty you gave me to drink; I was a stranger and you received me, naked and you clothed me; when sick you cared for me; when imprisoned you visited me.”
This was an invitation, a call within a call, an invoking to the conscience of Mother to work for millions around the world on September 10, 1946, while traveling in a small train to Darjeeling. It was the humane attitude of Mother that led her deep into the sea of humanity with the message of love and joy.
Mother reached great heights of spirituality with deep love for the poor because she firmly believed that “the poor have more to give us than what we have to give them.” She left an indelible mark on the pages of history, besides a matchless legacy.
Missionaries of Charity, a religious Order founded by the strong willed Teresa, now runs more than 500 homes around the world, providing love and service to deprived ones round the clock.
