Government schools keep up the good show
Continuing its good performance, Delhi government schools managed an all time high pass percentage of 77.12 in the Class X results, reports Amitabh Shukla.
Continuing its good performance, Delhi government schools managed an all time high pass percentage of 77.12 in the Class X results announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education on Tuesday. The improvement has been a record 17.3 percent from the 59.73 percent figure of last year.
Buoyed by the results — first Class XII and then Class X — Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said this was possible due to the efforts of students, teachers and officials of the Education Department.
So significant has been the performance of the government schools that the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, has carried out two case studies on these schools, Lovely said. “Another case study on our success story has been commissioned,” he added.
The overall result of CBSE for the entire country has improved by 7.28 per cent while Delhi government schools have shown a development of 17.3 per cent. “This increase in absolute percentage points in a single year is the highest ever,” Lovely said. The pass percentage was a poor 48.03 per cent in 2004-05. “This increase in two years is more than the increase in the preceding ten years,” the minister added.
The gap between private and government schools in Delhi has been reduced from a figure of 28.59 per cent last year to 13.93 per cent this year.
Interestingly, of the 1165 government schools in the city, there are only 46 schools where all the students have passed the board exams. There are 276 schools where the pass percentage is 90 percent and more.
“Strict monitoring, computerisation of the entire department and a new orientation towards schools education are the keys for success,” added Lovely.
