The government on Friday said that accommodation to new MPs would be allotted according to different categories and the procedure was on the verge of completion.
"All the MPs would be allotted houses and the procedure will be completed today itself," said Lok Sabha Housing Committee chairman J P Aggarwal.
There are different categories and houses will be allotted to all the new MPs based on the number of years they have spent as lawmakers. For example those who are former ministers or three-time MPs they are being given bungalows, said Aggarwal.
Aggarwal, however, said that an MP deserves a better accommodation than the present one as the existing houses were old and do not cater to the growing demand of an MP who represents about 20 lakh people.
"The single bedroom accommodation given to a new MP is not adequate for him. There should be 3-bedroom flats for these MPs," he said.
When asked about the allegations that some brokers are involved in allotting houses to MPs, he said there is no truth in it and if anyone comes across such cases then the matter would be reported to police immediately.
