"Our grandfather is a rock star and he rocked" as a speaker!
This was the observation by two granddaughters of Somnath Chatterjee about the Speaker who on Thursday presided over the last sitting of the 14th Lok Sabha, which was incidentally his last day at office as he has decided not to contest polls again.
Surya and Trisha Bhattacharya, besides their parents, were among the special guests who had come to witness the proceedings.
Talking to reporters after the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die, they said, our grandfather is a rock star, he rocked (as a Speaker).
When asked to react to his granddaughters' remarks, Chatterjee said: "I am so much fond of them. I will accept any comment they make."
Chatterjee's son Pratap summed up his sentiments on the role of his father as a Speaker saying, "we called him a headmaster, but think they needed a master."
On the best decision Chatterjee took as the Speaker, Pratap said, "I think protecting the sovereignty of Parliament. And I think the other thing you are hinting at, I think I leave it to the people to judge".
"Wait for 100 years," was the curt reply of the Speaker when asked whether he would take any other constitutional post after retirement.
