A 23-year-old frustrated security guard of a finance company opened fire gunned down two of his colleagues and grievously injured two female employees before shooting himself with his licensed pistol in Govindpuri Extension area in south Delhi on Thursday.
The incident took place around 7.55pm at the Govindpuri Extension branch of Muthoot Finance Private Ltd.
Extended work hours and less salary seemed to have taken a toll on the security guard.
The deceased have been identified as Vishram Singh, the security guard, Jomesh, 27, senior assistant manager and Krishna, 25, assistant manager.
The two women who were critically injured in the firing are Nidhi Ghai, a trainee call centre executive and Anu Gole, assistant call centre executive. All together nine employees, excluding Singh, were in the office when the security guard began firing indiscriminately with his licensed pistol.
Ajay Choudhary, additional commissioner of police (southeast) said Singh, a native of Etah in UP, had been working in the office for the past one-and-a-half years.
“Singh fired randomly on the employees and four of them sustained gunshot injuries. He also shot himself in his head with the same weapon,” Choudhary said.
Singh fired six rounds from his licensed .315 semi-automatic pistol. While Singh died on the spot, the others were rushed to Aiims Trauma Centre.
“Krishna and Jomesh were pronounced brought dead by the doctors while the condition of Anu and Nidhi is stated to be critical,” said Choudhary.
Branch manager RP Sarthi said that he along with eight other employees were busy in their work when all of a sudden Singh began firing.
“Singh had been tense for the past few days as he had some financial problems. A few days back he had complained about his extended work hours and less salary,” said Sarthi.
Singh was hired from Sky Force Security Service Private Ltd located in Khanpur.
The employees who survived the shootout were visibly shocked. Police evacuated them from the office around 9 pm after collecting evidence from the spot.
A case of murder has been registered at Kalkaji police station and investigations were on.
