A doctor was allegedly held hostage at his clinic-cum-house in Helimandi by three armed robbers and robbed of cash and jewellery at gunpoint on Saturday.
Police say, the robbers came in a car and asked Dr Rajesh Kumar to conduct their check-up. When Kumar started examining them, they closed the shutter of the clinic and tied up the doctor and his assistant.
“The incident took place around 11am in Helimandi area. The robbers fled away with cash, jewellery and a mobile phone. On the complaint of Kumar, a case of robbery has been registered,” said a senior police officer. The statements of the victims have been recorded and the police are preparing a sketch of the robbers.
“The thieves remained in the clinic for 30 minutes. They did not hurt anyone,” he added. In another incident, three flats of in Hewo Apartments in Sector 15 were burgled on Friday night. According to the police, all flats were locked.
“The burglars probably knew that occupants were not at home. They broke open the window and entered the house. The modus operandi in all three cases is the same,” said a police officer. A case of theft has been registered at the Civil Lines police station.
“The theft took place at house number 13, 96 and 27 and these flats are on different floors,” said V Tiwari of Hewo Apartments. One society member claimed to have seen thieves escaping around 4am. The exact loss is yet to be ascertained.
