To give a much needed facelift to the Hanuman Mandir at Yamuna Plaza near ISBT in Civil Lines Zone, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has proposed re-developing its surroundings to provide better facilities to visitors.
A proposal in this regard was tabled in the MCD House meeting on Monday. An administrative approval and expenditure sanction to execute the project has been granted.
The MCD the project would be completed before the Commonwealth Games in October this year.
“A thorough inspection of the temple was carried out by a team of MCD officials. After this, the MCD chief architect was asked to provide face-lift drawings, along with specifications for the temple surroundings,” said a senior MCD official.
“These drawings were submitted in July last year and accordingly, a Rs 1.94 crore preliminary estimate for the project was drawn up,” he added.
The proposal envisages improvement in the courtyard, with coloured granite, red sandstone flooring and sprucing up of the parking area.
The lumpsum provision for seating, dustbins, tree guards and display boards have also been made.
“It is a historic temple and is visited by thousands of people. Hence, a need to restore it was felt,” said RK Singhal, chairman, MCD standing committee.
“Now that the proposal has been given a final clearance, work will begin soon. We will complete it before the Games,” added Singhal.
