Home Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday said that as a Congress leader he was happy that CBI gave a clean chit to his party colleague Jagdish Tytler in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

“I am happy that the report exonerates another party colleague,” he said at a Congress briefing at the party headquarters in New Delhi.

Chidambaram said since the matter was before court, it would be “totally inappropriate” to comment on the report and added that it was for the court to decide.

65-year-old Tytler on Thursday got a clean chit from the CBI in an anti-Sikh riots case after the investigating agency found no “sufficient evidence” of the involvement of the former Union minister who is contesting the coming Lok Sabha elections from Delhi.
