Supreme Court advocate MP Shorawala has been appointed as non-official part-time director on the board of directors of the Central Bank of India.

Supreme Court advocate MP Shorawala has been appointed as non-official part-time director on the board of directors of the Central Bank of India.

A ministry of finance notification issued earlier this month said the appointment of Shorawala, who is considered to be an expert on corporate and criminal law, shall be for three years. He is also an advocate-on-record of the Supreme Court.

Tourism ministry on Twitter
With a trendy minister - Chiranjeevi now in-charge, the ministry of tourism has taken to Twitter now to promote tourism and project ministry's activities on the popular social network. One of the first tweets was on the 'Land of Pi' campaign, which the ministry is launching big, cashing in on the worldwide success of the movie Life of Pi.

Presenting the exotic beauty of places like Puducherry and Munnar where the film was shot, the campaign in English as well as in French, German, Chinese, Spanish and Japanese would be run through India Tourism offices worldwide. Incredible India has just become inventive.

Urban plan director is Andhra chief secy
With the recent green signal from Prime Minister's Office, PK Mohanty, a 1979-batch officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre is set to take over as chief secretary of the state. Mohanty is serving as a special secretary in the housing and urban poverty alleviation ministry.

Considered to be an expert in urban affairs, he was the mission director, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, and had played a key role in drafting some of the ministry's key schemes like the Rajiv Awas Yojana to make India slum-free and the National Urban Livelihood Mission.

Race for road secy hots up
With incumbent road secretary AK Upadhyay due to retire on January 31, several names have started doing the round for his replacement. Among the frontrunners is Vijay Chibber, secretary, Ex-servicemen Welfare in the defence ministry.

Chibber had earlier served as additional secretary cum financial advisor in the road ministry. Zohra Chatterjee, recently promoted as special secretary in the coal ministry is also in the race. Recently Chatterjee had come to Transport Bhawan to meet the highways minister CP Joshi.

On the fast track
Officials found to be used fake certificates to get the coveted government job could be in trouble faster than they expected. The department of personnel and training has issued fresh instructions to all departments to expeditiously complete disciplinary proceedings against such officials and sack them.

The directive followed instances that came to the department's notice that indicated the inquiries seemed to continue for a long time, allowing unscrupulous officials to enjoy the benefits of the government jobs.
