Unlike in the April episode of India Against Corruption’s (IAC) mass fast-unto-death at Jantar Mantar, Anna Hazare would be carrying on the indefinite fast alone.
It was Hazare’s fourth day of fasting as he reached the Ramlila maidan on Friday. He remained seated alone on the high stage as others in the team took turns to speak from the dais, erected a little below the main stage. His fast is now being called indefinite fast as against ‘fast-unto-death’ in April.
Jantar Mantar had seen more than 300 people join Hazare on his fast. Sources said, people who approached the IAC for joining the fast were told not to undertake it. “This reeks of high handed attitude of IAC. They do not want our views to be heard,” said a supporter, who had fasted for all days at Jantar Mantar.
Explained Manish Sisodia, an IAC member, “Annaji himself wants this. He says, energies of other people should be diverted for mobilising the country.” That is why no separate arrangements have been made for those who wish to join in.
