The Delhi high court on Tuesday advocated zero tolerance towards rapists, saying any leniency would encourage more people to commit such crimes.

“If the courts start getting sympathetic towards people who commit such serious offences and spoil the lives of young girls for the satisfaction of their sexual lust, more and more people having such tendencies would be encouraged and more young girls would become their prey,” Justice PK Bhasin said while rejecting the leniency plea of a rape convict.

Razzi Ahmed said he was just 29 years old and had four children to support.

Ahmed had been sentenced to seven years imprisonment on October 6, 2003 for raping a minor. His sentence had been suspended after he filed an appeal in the high court.
