The Delhi High Court has given its go ahead to the Delhi government’s ambitious plan to construct more than a lakh low-cost houses for the urban poor at Kanjhawala and Bawana under the Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojna.
Villagers of Kanjhawala had opposed the project saying the land should only be utilised for various developmental centres for them or returned to Gaon Sabha.
“The proposal for utilisation of land for growth centres was cancelled and the land has been transferred to DSIIDC for housing project,” said a Division Bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul.
“There is, thus, merit in the stand of the Govt. of NCT of Delhi that the writ petition is premature as the exercise has not been completed by issuance of a notification though the material has been placed before the L.G.”
