Revenge was the only thing on his mind for the last three years. He planned his each move to settle a score with a 20-year-old girl. Her only fault: She did not pay any heed to his advances.
And, on March 8, 25-year-old Ram Singh, alias Vijay, succeeded in killing Radhika Tanwar after three attempts in the past one-and-a-half months. According to south Delhi Police, "reliable" sources told them that Vijay had been trying to kill Radhika since the last week of January.
The police said he made three attempts prior to the day of the murder. They said, he was after he came back to Delhi from Mumbai, where he had been working in a knitting unit, he went to his former employer Kamaal Khan, an owner of a knitting unit in Naraina Village, to ask for his old job.
"Khan turned Vijay away because of his previous record. Khan told Vijay that he will not employ a man who has a track record of harassing women," added Dhaliwal.
Khan had earlier fired Vijay for harassing Radhika. "He might have been beaten up twice for stalking her. Since he moved back to Delhi, he had been planning to kill Radhika to avenge his humiliation," said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south).
The police, however, are not sure from where he got the murder weapon, a country-made pistol. "It will be clear once we arrest him," added Dhaliwal.
They said that teams were sent to Western Uttar Pradesh to nab him. They said Vijay might be arrested by Friday evening. The police said that Vijay allegedly made a meticulous plan for the attack. "He canvassed the whole area and followed Radhika discreetly. The first time he boarded the same bus as her and tried to kill her," said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to speak to the media.
According to the police, the second time Vijay allegedly managed to follow her till the pedestrian bridge and would have shot her, if there weren't so many people.
On the day before the murder, too, Vijay tried to kill Radhika, but stopped again because of a large crowd on the pedestrian bridge.
