The police have detained a man who they believe holds the key to the murder of 67-year-old Kashi Dutt Tripathi, the brother-in-law of CBI Director Vijay Shanker. Tripathi was found murdered at his Sainik Farms house on July 11.
“The detained driver has given us conclusive details about two other people who are apparently involved in the murder,” said a senior police officer.
The police detained the driver on the night of the murder itself and have been questioning him since. According to the police, Tripathi never hired permanent drivers or domestic helps, always relying on temporary ones.
But the driver whose identity the police refused to reveal had worked with Tripathi earlier and was known to him.
It was the driver who provided his associates with information about the deceased. He basically acted as a conspirator, the police said, adding the killers were two in number and entered the house along with this man.
The police said Tripathi was to leave for Switzerland on July 17 and the assailants were aware of this fact. “They knew that Tripathi must have kept cash and valuables for the trip, so they decided to rob the house,” the officer added.
The police have sent a team to Rae Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh to apprehend the two men. “Even the man detained belongs to Rae Bareilley and his associates also belong to the same place,” the officer said.
