Power distribution companies are planning to write to the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) about the increased transmission charges they will have to pay Delhi Transco Limited (DTL).

Discoms officials say the DTL tariff decided by DERC has gone up by 300% which will affect their power procurement cost.

"We have been paying Rs 398 crore to Transco and now we will have to pay Rs 1,187 crore annually. For the next seven months we will have to pay Rs 789 crore. This means that the increase of R1 per unit by DERC has been reduced to just 35 paisa. A large part of the tariff correction will be paid to DTL as transmission charges," said a distribution firm's spokesperson.

Discoms are now planning to write to the commission to look into the matter. DTL officials say the transmission cost which has been increased was taken into consideration by DERC when it announced the consumer tariff.

"The 22% hike took into consideration the increased transmission charges, too. There will be no burden on discoms," said a DTL spokesperson.
