According to police, they received a tip-off, saying that a few people caught a hog deer in Mojpur under Chhainsa police station around 2.30pm. The animal was reportedly killed for its meat.
"We rushed to the spot and found the animal lying dead. We rounded up 10 people who had committed the crime and arrested all of them," said Dharam Pal, SHO Chhainsa police station in Faridabad.
"The 10 people were arrested on the spot," ACP Tigaon Naveen Saigal said.
Confirming the news, V Tyagi, DFO Faridabad said: "The hog deer was killed in Mojpur area in Faridabad. I was told a case has been registered against 10 people in this connection."
The carcass of the animal has been sent to the veterinary hospital of Chhainsa village and vets are expected to conduct post-mortem on Sunday, Del Chand Sagar, inspector wildlife department said.
The arrested people have been identified as Puran, Swaroop Nath, Bijender, Mahinder, Mahabir, Babu Nath, Jagdesh, Narayan Nath, Rajesh and Shiv Kumar - all from Arua village in Ballabgarh.
On January 12, an irate mob in Kheri Gujran had beaten a leopard to death, prompting both the police and wildlife department to register a case against the villagers.
