A Ghaziabad resident has alleged that a private hospital in Shahdara stole his left kidney during surgery to remove stones.

Businessman Devender Gupta (42), who has a damaged right kidney, is on a dialysis and his family is running from pillar to post lodge an FIR against two people known to him, who had taken him to the said hospital for surgery. Ghaziabad and Shahdara police stations have been passing the buck to each other

“Everything was fine till January, when I developed complications in my right kidney area. The doctor at the diagnostic centre where I had my ultrasound referred me to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The doctor mentioned in his report that ‘left kidney is invisible.’ The AIIMS nephrology department confirmed the same this month,” Gupta said.

His friend Manoj Kumar and Kumar’s father Lal Chand had advised him to undergo surgery at the Shahdara hospital. “They said they would help me to get the expenses reduced. They did not hand over my treatment papers,” Gupta said.

“I’m sure the kidney was taken out during the surgery. They kept me in hospital for four days and gave me 16-17 stitches,” he added. Since January, goes for dialysis twice a week.

Ghaziabad SSP Akhil Kumar said an FIR would be lodged in the case soon and a probe initiated.
