Hospital strike enters day two

Operations had to be cancelled, in-patients slept on hungry stomach and several patients had to return home without treatment with the strike called by the hospital workers entering its second day.

Operations had to be cancelled, in-patients slept on hungry stomach and several patients had to return home without treatment with the strike called by the hospital workers entering its second day on Tuesday.

Most medical services remained paralysed in government hospitals in the Capital as the strike by around 75,000 third and fourth-class employees continued despite the government imposing the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA).

Hospitals most affected included AIIMS, Safdarjang Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, LNJP, GB Pant, Lady Hardinge, Sucheta Kriplani Hospital, Kalavati Saran Hospital, Maulana Azad Medical College, Guru Nanak Eye Centre and Rao Tularam Hospital.
