The north Delhi municipal corporation has already announced that they are working in this direction. If applicable, people would be able to use the facility in most parts of Delhi.

“We held a meeting with several restaurant associations and they have agreed to give access to their washrooms. One can now simply walk into the nearest restaurant and tell the staff that they need to use the washroom,” said a senior official of East Corporation.

People can use the facility from Tuesday and it will be free of cost, he said.

However, men have been kept of out of the scheme due to privacy issues cited by various hotel associations, he said.

The move would allow women and children to access washrooms even in five-star hotels, he said.

“We want the hotels and restaurants to take this directive in the right spirit. The facility will be reviewed on the basis of the feedback provided by the catering establishments,” he said.

President of the resident welfare association of East Delhi BS Vohra said, “The move is good but unlike South Delhi, the number of hotels and restaurants in East Delhi is less. There are two-three big hotels in Parpatganj and some in other areas.”
